On October 29th, alright (okay) released their long-anticipated EP ‘Decent (Fine)’ (read our review here). Then, on November 15th we gathered to hear this enticing EP played live at Liverpool’s trendy venue Future Yard. Boasting five support acts, the gig was thrust into life by Grungy, eruptive three-piece colourwash, followed by the Metal-infused Face It Tegan and the haunting intensity of Broadsheet Speak, peaking with the Punky, radiant energy of Broken Down Golf Cart and the explosive verve of The Marigolds.

With our pulses high, alright (okay) took to the stage to CCR’s Fortunate Son’, setting the electric atmosphere in stone and quickly ensuring a ride-or-die crowd with frontman Alex’s first and only request of them: “To move!”.

Opening with much-loved classics such as ‘Idle and Motivated and ‘Boyz Noize’, with the hypnotic blend of Alex’s statement growls and Will’s velvet vocals, Future Yard shook with a charming and charged Rock n Roll, offering strutting bass lines, driving guitars and impassioned choruses. As the set reached the time for ‘Decent (Fine)’ in full, the stage smouldered with red light as the doomy beginnings of ‘10A entranced the room with washing cymbals and an ominous, moaning guitar.

Erupting into gritty Rock with Jonah’s pulsing bass and James’ feverish drums, it was inevitable that when heard live this EP’s groovy ferocity would convert crowd to mosh pit. Soon the frontman joined his people in this euphoric frenzy, fuelled further by the meaty track ‘Good Friend (He Was)’. It’s fair to say that maintaining sharp vocals whilst being the beating heart of a mosh isn’t a talent of the average man.

Despite being an “emotional send off for their beloved guitarist Will which ended the gig in a heartbreaking huddle, we hope that the primal chants of “Alright! Okay!” will only get louder, hailing what an exciting band (they are).
