Last time we spoke to Red Rum Club they were approaching what was a very successful showing in their major headline performance at Aintree Racecourse. They teased their latest release ‘Buck’ which has been met with immediate success. Appearances over summer include Glastonbury, Leeds and Reading’s main stages - momentum building up to this album’s release was at an all time high for the group. ‘Buck’ is a display of the band's well earned confidence, conveyed through its loud and explosive sound. Building upon previous works stylistically but adding a new level of swagger and quality to the mix, this album is the top 10 hit the band wished for when we last spoke.

The opening track ‘Crush, TX’ encapsulates the wild rocky vibe of this work, heavy distortion and quick breakdowns give it that chaotic saloon vibe. ‘Taste’ follows suit with the heaviness. Doran’s vocal range shines through in this track, as does the band’s multi-instrumental creativity, sax-drum-guitar that seems to get louder and punchier into an exciting crescendo. ‘Taste’ echoes after listening, leaving an impression that makes it a certain standout.

However, ‘Buck’ isn’t all loud and rowdy, ‘Call Me On Your Comedown’ is a relaxed Western ballad that helps break up the album nicely, the perfect song to open or close a set before another epic encore. ‘Trouble In The Neighbourhood’ is impossible not to catch, with a quick and snappy tempo it brings an energetic vibe that eases listeners back into the album’s flowing pace. ‘Wild’ does a similar thing - while bringing the volume back in as well.

The album closes with a triple threat displaying Red Rum Club’s undeniable range: their anthemic ability shines through ‘Animal’, the snappy tempos and technical instrumentation in ‘Wish I Was Here’, and an emotional finale in ‘Someone’s Baby Isn’t Coming Home’

We enjoyed every moment of this album, a journey through Red Rum Club’s high quality sound, talent, and creativity. The group are seriously coming into their own now, producing a 10/10 album and going straight into their biggest UK tour to date this Autumn.
