The Wombats return with their new single 'Sorry I'm Late, I Didn't Want To Come' introducing a new era to their musical catalogue. The song's title already pretty much gives away the core of this song: an introvert anthem focusing on both, the very funny (and sometimes absurd) excuses some people give when they do not want to attend an event, but also a more serious matter: the social pressure to not miss out on anything.

The Wombats manage to combine a sense of playfulness with an underlying deep seriousness that allows their audience comfort in a topic so ever-present especially for today’s young people.
Transporting you to a time of crackling vinyl records, the song begins with the typical fuzziness of vinyl record sound and a rather distant-sounding guitar. After counting to three, this fuzzy sound is replaced by clear up-beat drums and guitars for the rest of the song, however not losing any of its core trope of nostalgia.
This song is the perfect comfort blanket for anyone who finds themselves in the situation of wanting to rather stay at home than to socialise.
This track teases the band's 6th studio album which is set for release next year.
