ALBUM REVIEW: Jamie T - Ghosts (100 Days of Morning)
Jamie T’s latest project brings his familiar indie, dance-infused rhythms back to listeners who have stuck around since the 2000s while creating a sense of ambiguity around the connotations he intends to leave with the songs. Even the album title leaves the listener curious before even beginning to dive into the depths of the project, what are the ghosts that he carries and how have the 100 days of morning shaped him as a person?

The opening track starts to unravel these questions, as a reference to the old Nokia 3310 it becomes evident that this album reflects the nostalgic memories of Jamie and perhaps many of our own culturally British memories. Jamie had once said he has been known for making the sounds of university students in years prior, often the primitive years of development for most young people and this album depicts the highs and lows that accompany those years as well as a period of reflection proceeding those years.
It only makes sense that, Damon Albarn, a musical figurehead so important to British culture contributes to the second track 'Cocktail' as the melody is so addictive with its plucky guitar melodies and melancholic lyrics to match that talk about the friends Jamie has lost.
A particular standout is ‘Waist 36 Leg 32’ as it exemplifies the theme of the album through the way it tries to process memories and the emotional baggage, we all carry with us. These feelings can be hard to confront but as the song describes “lies untold don’t make you lads” and truly without accepting all the complexities of the lives we have lead it is hard to move on or look on the past fondly, no matter how hard it can be.
