Wet Leg are back and bearing their teeth for all to see! Following the announcement of their sophomore album ‘Moisturizer’ (Out on July 11th) and a memorable festival performance at the Radio One Big Weekend in Liverpool last weekend, they jumped back out on tour for a midweek show at Leeds O2 Academy.

The crowd was already simmering with an angsty tension before the show began, feeding off the unforgiving attitude of the band and the sweaty, cramped conditions of the sold out venue. Then Wet Leg arrived on stage casting a sinister shadow as a cascade of flashing lights scattered across the stage.

In a way, the opening track defined the night, and perhaps sheds a light on their new era. They seemed to have an added ferocity and power in their performance as the name of the track ‘Catch These Fists’ suggests. As lead singer Rhian Teasdale flexed her muscles surrounded by a cacophony of thumping rhythms you could tell that they meant business!

As they dipped between first album classics and new album teasers the highlights were as you’d expect. From the grungy build ups of ‘Angelica’ to the singalong, playful tones of ‘Wet Dream’ it was a poignant reminder of how many hits are packed into their debut. Often, the sharp backing guitar Melodies really shone through, emerging as a vibrant flourish, pushing through the noise.

Rhian’s on-stage performance also elevated the set. It’s clear that she is really taking centre stage with this new campaign and she was more than ready for it on the night, dancing, prowling and owning that stage with the same venomous attitude that you can see on the new album cover.

Although the tour may have benefited from arriving a little later, when the fans had a few more singles to digest, it was still a stellar set and the anthemic swagger of 'Chaise Lounge' did not disappoint. Everyone left the room with a newfound arrogance that was radiating off the stage and it’s made us desperately excited for their new music to come.
