LIVE REVIEW: Home Counties @ The Old Blue, London

In an unsuspecting loft space at a bar in East London, Home Counties display their catchy unreleased tracks off the upcoming debut album ‘Exactly As It Seems’.

We were lucky enough enjoy an intimate Home Counties headline at night three of the DIY ‘Hello 2024’ shows. The room was packed out with many fellow music obsessives, even some Home Counties obsessives, often heckling the band to play some of their older stuff which came as a surprise to the band.

Regardless, the five-piece, who were without a member on the night, played some of the said older tunes including one of their most streamed songs ‘Back to the 70s’. An excitable rendition of their 2020 single ‘Modern Yuppies’ came as a nice surprise to fans in the audience and their latest singles off the upcoming album similarly went down well.

Technical difficulties left singer Will Harrison, singing the intro acapella, which is always a fun moment at gigs. But the highlights of the show was the great response the band were receiving from their newest batch of songs, with a chirpy and upbeat punch that leaves the tune ringing around in your head for days.

The Home Counties classic of mimicking the melody sang, with harsh guitar sounds are seen in their newer stuff, affirming their sound. One new feature to expect on the upcoming debut record will be more electronic features in their songs.

They are a band we would recommend all to see live, with something for everyone whether it be huge synth solos or heavy guitar parts.

See them live in Manchester’s YES on Tuesday 7th May and listen to the album, out on 3rd May.
