Having recently gained a whole new swathe of followers thanks to their cover of Lord Huron's 'The Night We Met' which gathered over 12M views, this new EP arrives just at the right time to show these newfound fans what they are all about.
The opening title track epitomises the sentiment of the EP as the beauty of their vocal blends stands at the forefront of the track. The acoustics bring an earthy warmth and the piano tones add a swelling romance but it is the smoothness of their harmonies that really grabs you, casting an air of tranquility. The lyrical semantic field of nature makes you feel wholly connected to the earth and long for a day spent lazing in a meadow with your loved one on a hazy summer's day.
'same old eyes' sees their vocals become even more powerful, reaching for some rich, soaring vocal lines that ring of anthemic Folk giants such as Bon Iver and Chance Peña. This is certainly the biggest track on the EP.
Slick, breezy soundscapes return on subsequent tracks 'seasons' and 'better days' with the latter of the two diving into a slightly more melancholic and poignant atmosphere before 'still believe' brings about the most energetic and uplifting point on the EP with a tinge of Mumford and Sons in the shuffling, infectious rhythms.
Closing track 'i will' showcases their atmospheric range, building from an intimate beginning to a vibrant, cinematic sound instigated by a wonderfully joyous violin section. The finale is then big and powerful, closing the EP with a heartfelt finale as they sing the line "I'm not a coward" with a guttural passion.
Overall, it is a wonderfully organic EP with moments of tranquility, moments of intimacy and moments of soaring wonder with candid lyrics about all of our ups, downs, insecurities, anxieties, hopes, dreams, and everything in between.
