From Norwegian artist Silje Espevik comes the voice of Yndling, a layered blend of Dream-pop, Shoegaze, and dark Triphop. With her third album ‘Time, Time, Time (I’m in the Palm of your Hand)’ released this November in two parts, one focussing on a classic shoegaze style and the other prioritising experimentation, Yndling’s sonic soundscape is vast and all-encompassing.

The track ‘You Know I Hate it (How the World Moves on)’ features on the second half of this album, showcasing atmospheric textures and a hazy nostalgia. The track opens with a solo psychedelic melody before launching us into electronic drums, synthesised sounds and atmospheric droning guitars. With soft, breathy vocals reminiscent of Mazzy Star’s Hope Sandoval, Yndling draws on classic 90’s dream-pop influences as well as triphop bands like Portishead and Massive Attack.

The lyrics encompass the whole album’s focus on the movement of time, and this song presents it as an inevitable passage. The sonic layers thin out to draw singular emphasis to the line “You would not want me unless I wanted you too”, followed by a beat drop of bold guitars ringing out, displaying the darker rock elements evident in the track.

With this intense atmosphere, Yndling slides in line with modern artists like Just Mustard. After already being announced to play The Great Escape in 2026, it seems like she is finally begging to get the recognition she deserves here in the UK!
