Blue Bayou follow up their debut single ‘December Flowers’ with the upbeat and addictive ‘Hide and Seek’, a track tailor-made for hazy summer afternoons.

There’s a nostalgic warmth running through the jangly guitars and layered melodies, drawing from a wide palette that includes Indie, New Wave, and touches of Motown. The Oxford band, long known for their lively hometown gigs, bring that energy into the studio here. Vocals weave in and out—at times recalling Talking Heads, at others Cate Le Bon—and carry the song’s dreamy charm with ease.

There’s a mid-track break where the guitars melt into a shimmering haze before building back to a full-bodied climax. Self-described as “odd pop”, Blue Bayou resist easy classification, but it’s clear they’ve found a sound that feels distinctly theirs. ‘Hide and Seek’ is a confident, lovingly crafted single from a band we’re excited to hear more from.
