‘Mister’ is the latest single from Australia’s Navy June. Exploring the duality of reclaiming self-respect in the wake of heartbreak, ‘Mister’ is a uniquely cathartic experience of emotional immediacy from the Boorloo/Perth based five piece.

Expertly syncopated drumming and a virtuosically spaced out, modulating guitar line form the track’s hypnotically swirling foundation. Meanwhile, lead singer Ruby Barton Taylor’s vocals, alternately recall the assured, mesmerising delivery of Fiona Apple and Weyes Blood.
A slow cinematic smoulder of an opening gives way to attention-grabbing dynamic contrasts reminiscent of the Pixies, eventually culminating in a raw, distorted, powerfully charged ending of intense emotional release. Combining the expressive atmosphere of Portishead with the energy and impact of Hole, there’s no doubting that ‘Mister’ is the band’s most assured and confident release yet. Authentic, bold and individual, Navy June have solidified themselves as a band entirely in control of their creative powers.
