There is a time in everyone's life when they think about hell, a lot. Maybe you've just got the videos back from a night out, maybe you laughed at a stranger tripping over or maybe, in the case of Bad Self Portraits, it's when you think about what Jesus is doing with his alone time.Â

The contemplation of this has led, luckily for us, to an Ethel Cain-esque grapple with religion in the form of 'I Think I'm Going To Hell', the title track off of Bad Self Portraits debut album. It is shoegaze in parts, with heavy, fuzzy guitars and vocals glittering enough to decorate a Catholic Church. In other parts, it has the electronic rhythms of dance bands like Ciel or The Postal Service.Â
It is the perfect teenage bedroom song, angsty and intense enough to scream to, but with enough of a beat to spin around to. The ideal tune for next time you find yourself thinking about hell, a lot.
Another highlight of the album is 'Pensive' a punchy, fuzzy Indie rampage with a subdued groove reminiscent of NewDad. Throughout the record there's fun melodies and instrumentals that swarm around you. A fantastic debut record and a wonderful new discovery for us.
