Indie outfit Cosmic Empire are sweeping us into a second wave of Cool Britannia with their effortlessly cool new single ‘Circus’. The track opens with a quintessentially 90s guitar riff that is then intercepted by Alex’s anthemic, ever-so-smooth vocals. Like their previous single ‘Right Time’, the playful drums and addictive melody seem to have the same bull-dozing confidence as bands like Oasis and The Bluetones.

The slightly encoded yet intriguing lyrics “If this one falls that means nothing at all / too far gone to switch it off” are a certified earworm, and will rapidly become your new shower-karaoke mantra. However, it's only when the bridge becomes overlaid with the chorus that the song starts to soar with full Gallagher-brother flare and you'll feel transported back to a place of baggy jeans and bucket hats.
Cosmic Empire is a boy-next-door band that shines with charisma. Take our advice and listen to their gleaming new single so you can tell your dad not all good music died in the nineties.
