Although the latest single 'Hunger' from Ky J. Brandes is built upon natural acoustic tones and a pastel sonic palette, it still manages to create a really full sound that absorbs you in a heartwarming lullaby.
Ky does this by cleverly layering subtle sounds to fill every space in the track and make it feel as though you’re stood in the middle of a room full of a 10-person folk band. The acoustic rhythm has a sharp finish to each strum giving it an almost percussive feel while the backing harmonies provide a velvety backdrop padding out that empty space. The piano notes that enter the fray to dance a romantic tune fall loosely, without interrupting the hypnotic groove of the track and the claps in the chorus inject energy without needing to switch to a heavier sound.
However, what really grabs your attention is the smooth, winding flows of Ky’s vocals and the lead guitar. They melt their melodies together, playing off each other and building a beautifully rich soundscape that simultaneously transports your mind to the middle of an ancient forest and to the back of a bubbling Folk bar.
Despite the title of the track, their is plenty of meat on the bones of this single and all it leaves you hungry for is another listen!
