Celtic heritage is once again in a renaissance in the industry, with bands such as The Murder Capital and Kneecap, to Fontaines D.C and CMAT proving they should be at the forefront of crowds nowadays. Move aside Ireland, Brògeal, an Alternative Folk band from Scotland are here singing shanties to feel-good tunes in their debut album ‘Tuesday Paper Club’.

Fourteen tracks cover the album, starting strong with ‘Tuesday Paper Club’, a beginning number chiming in with drums, electric guitars and banjos, building the anticipation by lead singer, Daniel Harkins. There’s a fast atmosphere, quite fitting of the track, almost as if there is always something going down at the ‘Tuesday Paper Club’. A personal favourite lyric, ‘If you get fed up with the stout, move onto the wine!’ just screams that a good time is to be had with Brògeal, enticing you to stick around.
More follow the tracklist, such as ‘Friday on My Mind’ & ‘Racing Track’ also have those connotations of riding the high, while others in the album share a more toned down approach, showing in this debut there is something for everyone. ‘Scarlett Red’ features a slow acoustic guitar and piano letting you admire the journey that the band is passionate and courageous for.
Brògeal knows in this debut to have a good time with the high tracks to the slower numbers, but they don’t rely on it, as this has been a long time coming for the Scottish folk band, and they show no slowing down, with album shows to UK tours. Now, time to put ‘Tuesday Paper Club’ on and in true spirit, crack open a Buckfast.
