It’s fair to say that Scotland’s Brooke Combe’s debut album ‘Dancing At The Edge Of The World’ has been very hotly anticipated. Brooke has released a series of well-received singles and EPs, supported fan favourite bands The Snuts, featured on the newest Courteeners album, and won the rising star award at the 2024 Rolling Stone Awards. It’s a lot to live up to, but we think she’s delivered.

Opening track ‘This Town’ sets the album off to a roaring start. Powerful and fresh, this fast-paced song is utterly joyous, and a beautiful balance of soul and dance. The more sombre ‘Butterfly’ showcases Brooke’s incredible voice, layering smooth vocals over scratchy guitar and driving drums. In contrast, ‘Lanewood Pines’ oozes LA with its sunshine sound, upbeat lyrics and clever harmonies.
The ending is just as strong as the start, with ‘Dancing At The Edge Of The World’ closing out the album with endlessly relatable and emotive lyrics. As a whole, the album is a showcase of technical skills, smooth production and complex vocals, made all the more impressive by the fact it was recorded with a live band, straight to tape.
Clocking in at just over 30 minutes, every one of the ten tracks is well considered and brings something new to the album, without a wasted moment. We’re huge fans of Brooke’s cover of ‘Yes Sir I Can Boogie’, but this album proves she has her own voice, and we can’t wait to hear more from her.
