Neighbourhood is returning once again with its inner-city Autumn festival this October, taking over venues across Manchester city centre and bringing together a selection of the most exciting acts in the North-West and a variety of the UK's next wave of newcomers.
Final tickets available here.
This year's line up is stacked, featuring major stars including Alt icons Pale Waves, who never fail to bring their irresistibly tempting mystique and anthemic swagger to the stage! However, festivals like these, more than most, are all about venue hopping to take in a whole host of music, seeing your favourite acts and discovering new music.
So...here's our list of 5 acts that you need to see at NBHD 2024!
Antony Szmierek
Lyrically-focused Hip-Hop artist Antony Szmierek has probably been the most exciting breakthrough act in the North-West this year. His slick electro grooves bend and weave between a poignant dance blend akin to some of Fred Again’s most sentimental tracks and more flavoursome, Jazz-infused Hip Hop textures that are reminiscent of Loyle Carner.
However, the attention really has to be on his enrapturing lyrics that are both deeply personal to his own life and yet, beautifully relatable. Never missing a phonetic trick, his words have a flow that is both lucid yet powerful all at once and their meanings stick with you long after the songs finish.
This combination of wonderfully constructed backing instrumentals and astute lyricism has earned Antony the title as one of BBC 6 Music’s Artists of the Year. He is not to be missed!
PIXEY
Liverpool’s new Pop queen, PIXEY, has been one of our favourite acts in the North-West for a good while. Whether it’s her irresistible melodies, insatiable beats or infectious personality, there’s just so much to love. Her sound blends pure Pop sensibilities with a more interesting and complex musical arrangement than your average radio hit.
There’s a definite focus on generating grooves to make you move, perhaps originating from her drumming abilities, which injects her sound with such a dance-worthy energy that it's hard to sit still when listening to her music. Now, PIXEY has just released her debut album ‘Million Dollar Baby' and we can't wait to hear it live in the flesh
Picture Parlour
Undoubtedly one of the most exciting new acts in the UK, Picture Parlour create a sound oozing with drama. Their music is theatrical breathes a granduer matched by few others with The Last Shadow Puppets and The Last Dinner Party being the only two that come close on first thought.
The winding guitar lines have a sun-dripped, velvety tone while the Boroque-Pop swings instantly casts a spell on you, injecting you with a newfound confidence, empowering you to get up on both feet, stand up to those who've wronged you, confess your love to those which your heart desires and, most of all, sing your lungs out while thrusting your body around the room imagining you are on stage at The Ritz! Many are banking on these guys being the next big thing so why not judge for yourself at NBHD 2024?
Chloe Slater
Rising Alternative star, Chloe Slater, made a huge statement with the release of her debut EP ‘You Can’t Put A Price On Fun’. The EP covers a range of lyrical sentiments both personal and political while perfectly capturing the aesthetic of Gen-Z living both in content and delivery.
Her music carries the sunken-eyed, cool swagger of acts like Wet Leg and English Teacher with more pop-tinged chorus'. She seamlessly combines angsty attacks with inescapably catchy melodies and personal introspections with damming reflections on society. We can't wait to see her live for the first time this month.
The Kairos
Liverpool quartet The Kairos optimise everything there is to love about Indie Rock; infectious riffs that combine catchy melody with gritty, tonal texture, raucous vocals that channel the spirit of youth and an overall energy that simply demands that you get up and at it, whether that be diving into a mosh pit or getting outside to conquer the day.
Their music is high-octane, passionate and camaraderie but most of all, it is just pure fun. If you love a full on Indie moshpit then these are the guys for you.
