We love sharing local music, uncovering and showing our love for those underground artists that create a city’s thriving music scene. However, sometimes we get so bogged down in founding new music from Merseyside and the rest of the UK that we neglect the rest of the world. So here is one of our favourite finds from further afield, Belgium’s WHYES.
The synth-pop group have been making a name for themselves in Europe and now are starting to get noticed in the UK. They describe themselves as 80’s influenced Indie pop of the most danceable kind, and they do not lie. They emanate an infectious sound similar to more local artists such as No Hot Ashes and The Lottery Winners.
Their latest single ‘I’m At War’ is both danceworthy and poignant. It carries an emotional, slightly bittersweet atmosphere that adds an extra layer to the overall sonic effect. So, if you are planning any Indie get togethers or post-lockdown celebrations, this is a must for your party playlists.
