People like to reminisce about the ‘good old days’ of music, when people played real instruments, and music was still exciting, unlike now. Those people have clearly never discovered Sugar for the Pill, who have just released their new, 2025 single Luv.

This single has the wall of sound, softly blurred around the edges, that you would expect from a band named after a Slowdive tune, intertwined with the bouncing, dream-pop rhythms of Throwing Muses or Chapterhouse.

The track unfurls like a hot breath on a cold day, crisp yet airy, hushed and distant. They manage to melt these 90s, reverb drenched melodies into a distinctly modern glitchy synth. The sounds of Julie or Beach House glimmer through in these moments.

Sugar for the Pill isn't skirting around the edges of the 90s, they have their feet firmly planted in 2025, surging forward with the full weight of the last 30 years behind them, proving that the ‘good old days’ of music are far from behind us.
