Over the past two years, Dutch duo Sarah Julia have quickly established themselves as exciting new talents in the world of Indie Folk with their otherworldly, enchanted, and wholly individual sound. Made up of sisters Sarah and Julia Nauta, ‘Bigger Picture’ is their latest single, a perfect summation of their nostalgic and harmonically lush sound.

Tender and intimate, and on just the right side of twee, the duo perfectly combine the modern Indie Folk sensibility of contemporary songwriters like Adrianne Lenker and Phoebe Bridgers with the classic, timeless sensibility of predecessors as noted and revered as Joni Mitchell, Cat Stevens, and Judee Sill.

Built around an enveloping, ever developing arpeggiated guitar line, soft percussion, and richly haunting vocal harmonies, the song meditates on the passing of time, the accumulation of perspective, and the emancipatory nature of ultimately surrendering to the uncertainty of fate amidst the confusion of everyday existence, the duo singing, ‘I don’t know where I’m going, but I’ll get there’. A real gem of a song, ‘Bigger Picture’ cements Sarah Julia as a band exploring the nuances of the human experience with deftness, subtlety and skill.
