‘Magic’ immediately begins with a motif that Rachel Rimmer, the frontwoman behind Hot Springs, declares with a mysterious ambiance, “I’ve got magic in my pocket”. However, she does not wish to elaborate upon her sorcery, “You can’t have it!”, perhaps preferring to show rather than to tell.

‘Magic’ quickly catapults itself into an infectious groove, The bass and drums become the driving force behind the song, providing a steady canvas onto which Rachel projects her dreamlike vocals.

Rachel gives us two options, “come with me, set yourself free or go to work, and watch the clock tick tock”, becoming briefly reminiscent of Pink Floyd's ‘Time’. This ultimatum alludes to a sudden sense of urgency, before a distorted guitar riff unexpectedly interrupts as the precursor to a heavier final chorus.

‘Magic’ then reaches a theatrical conclusion and Rachel's voice remains beautifully woven into the track, even whilst competing against a barrage of drum fills.
