Nestled on Tib Street in the heart of Manchester's Northern Quarter is the cosy local Italian Soots. Offering a homely, free-going atmosphere and perhaps the most appealing menu of vegan Italian dishes we've seen, the restaurant was a perfect summer treat.

The first noticeable quality of Soots is the atmosphere. As you walk in you feel like you're walking into the backroom of a local family, in the best possible way. The kitchen is small, open-plan and completely visible to the small selection of candlelit tables, giving the place an intimate, communal vibe equally perfect for a chilled summer evening or a romantic dinner date.

The menu of small plates doesn't resort to compromises of any sort to make it fully vegan and dishes such as the truffle ravioli tasting as rich and creamy as any hearty Italian. While there are some items on offer that are reminiscent of a traditional Italian menu, the majority of the dishes are nothing that we've tasted before; namely the marinated beetroot and the artichoke tagliatelle. Highlights of the menu had to be the White wine braised leek and the wild mushroom butter beans.

The price range of the plates is relatively high making it a location for special occasions and culinary indulgence however the food does justify the cost as the flavours and presentation start to lean into the realm of fine dining while the atmosphere remains laid back and characterful.

This a must visit for any Manchester foodies, a great new location for lovers of unique Italian cuisine and one of the best spots in town for a versatile vegan offering.
