ALBUM REVIEW: Gurriers - Nobody’s Coming To Save You
The Dublin five-piece’s sophomore album arrives like a brick through a window. ‘Nobody’s Coming To Save You’ is a title that initially reads like a threat, until you take time and listen to the album. This isn’t an album rooted in despair, it’s built on acceptance. Nobody’s coming to pull you out of the mess. The only way through it is forwards. Gurriers don’t pretend to have the answer, instead they soundtrack the moment that people stop waiting for someone else to make the first move.
The title track ‘Nobody’s Coming To Save You’ captures this feeling perfectly. It opens with a cloud of suffocating tension before crashing into one of the album's biggest hooks. What begins as almost defeated, slowly transforms into something far more defiant.
That restless energy spills straight into ‘Party Lines’, one of the record's standout tracks. Built around restless dance-punk groove, it's impossible to stand still through, yet never loses the grit that makes Gurriers feel dangerous.
Even the quieter moments refuse comfort. Tracks like ‘Nothing Happens Twice’ and ‘Waiting For Fisher’ allow space for reflection. By the time ‘Crybaby’ rolls around, there is no resolution waiting at the end, just the sense that the noise doesn’t stop when the record does.
What separates Gurriers album ‘Nobody’s Coming To Save You’ from others, is its refusal to romanticise hopelessness. Instead, Gurriers capture the moment where frustration becomes fuel and where anger stops being paralysing and starts pushing you forward.
